What are the advantages and disadvantages of silicone O-rings?

Time:2024-08-20 Views:45
Silicone O-ring is a highly active adsorbent material, belonging to amorphous material, which has excellent electrical insulation performance. The tensile strength is inferior to general rubber and does not have oil resistance. The temperature range of silicone is -43~210 ℃, and its most prominent advantage is its excellent high temperature resistance and anti-static performance. Moreover, through special formulation processes, it can be produced into food grade materials. Its advantages and disadvantages are as follows

Advantage:
1. After adjusting the formula, the tensile strength can reach 500 PSI and the resistance to fatigue can reach 88 LBS.
2. Good and with good compression deformation.
3. Has good resistance to neutral solvents.
4. Has excellent heat resistance.
5. Has excellent cold resistance.
6. Has excellent resistance to ozone and oxide erosion.

Disadvantages:
1. Not recommended for use in most solvents, oils, acids, and diluted sodium hydroxide for thickening.
2. Seals or rubber parts in the electronics industry, such as phone buttons, shock absorbers in DVDs, and seals in cable connectors.
3. The price of silicone O-rings is relatively expensive compared to other silicone rubber products.

In short, silicone O-rings can withstand both high and low temperatures, and have good sealing and dielectric properties. Therefore, they are commonly used in the production of various seals, high-voltage wires and cables, and rubber hoses for high and low temperature silicone products. At the same time, because silicone O-rings have the non-toxic, colorless, and odorless characteristics of silicone rubber products, they can also be used in the food and medical industries.
